Rust, Rot, Decay,Steel, Teeth, Iron

There is a very close match between what happens to two very hard substances when they are not properly taken care of:






Steel and dental enamel are remarkably tough but both, when neglected , rot. ..... and in both cases, the sort of neglect and consequent rot they suffer are symptomatic of a society in decay.

I plan to use these images and surrounding ideas to try to show how this effect occurs, what happens when it does and what we might do to counteract the process. Here's a  couple of very early ideas:
